The CX Series connector system from HIROSE conforms to the USB standard USB Type-C™, this standard is being widely adopted as a standard interface on many devices found in consumer, industrial and automotive markets.
The CX Series offers a wide variety of PCB and cable mounting options which give designers maximum flexibility in the placement of the connectors. The Type-C USB standard introduced reversible plug orientation ensuring easy insertion and more convenience for the end user.
PCB mounting receptacles are offered in the traditional surface mount right angle style along with a “Mid-Mount” option where the connector is mounted into a pre-cut slot in the PCB, this is particularly useful for applications with height restrictions where low profile is critical, and finally there is a vertical PCB mounting option allowing the PCB to be mounted parallel to the I/O ports on the outside of the equipment.
The CX Series are available in surface mount, compatible with reflow solder processes. Hybrid versions with surface mount and through hole pins for greater robustness are also available, these types are compatible with through hole reflow (THR) soldering setups for maximum convenience in high volume manufacturing processes.
Water and dust resistant receptacles are available in options of IP54, IP68 or IP69 K ratings for use in harsher environments. The sealed versions incorporate a gasket to provide water and dust resistance whilst still maintaining compatibility with standard Type-C USB connectors albeit without the sealing function if required.
A range of Type-C USB plugs complete the CX Series lineup, these are offered in PCB surface mount vertical format and cable mount plugs and shells. A range of preconfigured cable assemblies are also offered; these are available in slim overmold format with no locking option and dual and single screw locking options to prevent accidental disconnection.
The CX Series Type-C USB connectors are offered in 24 or 16 position options, the 24 position products offer data transmission speed options of 5Gbps or 20Gbps with the latter meeting the USB4 Gen. 2x2 standard, the 16 position parts support data transmission speeds of 480Mbps.
The CX Series supports rated currents of 5A throughout, with selected right-angle parts offering up to 6A of rated current, and 48V AC/DC voltage rating. Featuring a low initial contact resistance of just 40mΩ Max. the connectors offer excellent durability and are rated for 10,000 insertion / extraction cycles. The connectors have a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C (including temperature rise generated from current flow).
