Harwin has strengthened its renowned Kona high-reliability connector family with a significant range extension, introducing new right-angle, single-in-line (SIL) power connectors. This update adds angled thru-board and cable configurations, plus optional EMI shielding, delivering enhanced design flexibility for engineers working on aerospace, defence, and other mission-critical applications. With this expansion, the Kona line-up grows by over 30%, reinforcing Harwin's commitment to innovation in high-performance interconnect solutions.
The new additions to the Kona range include nine right-angle 2, 3, and 4 pin SIL connectors for thru-board or board-to-panel configurations, right-angle cable mount female connectors, right-angle board mount male connectors and optional EMI shielding backshell attachments manufactured from aluminium alloy adding just 2.2 mm in height, helping customers meet stringent EMC requirements. These new configurations enable engineers to optimise space utilisation without compromising on current-carrying capability or reliability, making them ideal for high-density, high-current systems.
The Kona connector range has been engineered for high-reliability performance in harsh environments. With the ability to deliver 60A per contact at 1500 AC/DC working voltage in demanding conditions, the Kona connectors feature 8.5 mm contact pitch and 3.65 mm PC tails for robust board retention.
Available in 2, 3 and 4 positions, each connector contact is individually shrouded and recessed, with polarised mating to prevent misconnection. Housings are moulded from high-temperature, glass-filled PPS thermoplastic (UL94V-0 rated), while contacts use beryllium copper with gold plating, ensuring low contact resistance and long-term durability. Operating temperature spans -65 °C to +150 °C, meeting the toughest environmental demands.
The Kona connector family includes male plug board-mount in straight and right-angle orientations, cable mount male plug and female receptacles with options for straight or right-angle cable exits, readymade cable assemblies along with a range of accessories including screw-locks and backshells with EMI shielding. Tooling is also available.
The Kona connector series are suited to the most demanding applications including Avionics and uncrewed systems (UAVs, UGVs), Military ground and airborne platforms, Space platforms, Automotive, Industrial systems, High-reliability power delivery in compact control modules and Embedded systems requiring thru-board and cable power feeds.
With exceptional current capacity, robust mechanical design, and compliance with stringent EMC and reliability standards, Kona connectors deliver unmatched performance for mission-critical applications. This latest expansion ensures engineers have the flexibility to design compact, high-power systems without compromise.

Industrial and embedded applications are required to operate under increasingly more stringent conditions, deployed with tighter constraints on space and budgets, and under harsher environments. To meet these demands, Harwin have announced an expansion of the popular Kontrol range of industrial board-to-board interconnects (BBi), by adding single row connectors and cables to the 1.27mm pitch (0.05") connectors. The expansion of the range has been designed to bridge the gap between high-end connectors and established pin header and socket solutions.
