STMicroelectronics have released the STM32 Nucleo gas expansion board which interfaces electrochemical sensors with the MCU on the STM32 Nucleo development board allowing engineers to quickly evaluate various gas sensors helping to reduce time to market for their designs.
The P-NUCLEO-IKA02A1 evaluation pack features an expansion board with various PCB foot prints to accommodate the most common electrochemical sensors available in the market, the board is fitted with an ultra-compact coin cell style Figaro TGS5141 Carbon monoxide sensor (CO) allowing designers to get up and running out of the box. The Figaro CO sensor measures just 15mm dia. by 7mm height and incorporates many years of market experience and accumulated technical expertise.

The P-NUCLEO-IKA02A1 expansion board uses two on-board TSU111 operational amplifiers which provide signal conditioning, the TSU111 nano-power operational amplifiers are ideal for electrochemical sensing applications due their high precision and ultra low power consumption. The expansion board also includes an ultra-low current STLM20 precision analog temperature sensor which is used for compensation of the gas readings. The STLM20 has a maximum quiescent supply current of 8 μA making self-heating negligible.
The P-NUCLEO-IKA02A1 STM32 Nucleo pack includes the electrochemical sensing expansion board and the NUCLEO-L053R8 STM32 Nucleo-64 development board which features the STM32L053R8 MCU.
STMicroelectronics range of STM32 Nucleo-64 boards provide an affordable and flexible way for users to try out new concepts and build prototypes by choosing from the various combinations of performance and power consumption features, provided by the STM32 microcontroller line. The NUCLEO-L053R8 STM32 Nucleo-64 board comes with the STM32 comprehensive free software libraries and examples available with the STM32Cube MCU Package.
The design and componentry of the P-NUCLEO-IKA02A1 expansion board and NUCLEO-L053R8 development board have been optimised for battery operation allowing maximum battery life time.
