Intersil's ISL2802x digital power monitor (DPM) family delivers high accuracy measurements in a wide input common mode voltage range (0V to 60V), providing designers with a high level of safety margin that often is necessary in wired, wireless and data infrastructure applications.
The ISL2802x family is comprised of three devices offering a range of capability including full featured bi-directional, high-side and low-side digital current sense and voltage monitors with a serial interface. The devices monitor power supply current, voltage and provides the digital results along with calculated power.
The ISL28023 is a full featured PMBus-compatible digital power monitor that integrates the analog comparators, a voltage regulator, a DAC and a low voltage auxiliary channel in a single chip. The ISL28025 is a high precision digital power monitor that is offered in a tiny WLCSP footprint. The ISL28025 is ideal for space constrained applications. The ISL28022 is an efficient digital power monitor for cost-constrained applications.
The ISL2802x series provides tight accuracy of 0.05% (ISL28023), <0.1% (ISL28025) and <0.3% (ISL28022) for both voltage and current monitoring. The auxiliary input provides an additional power monitor function. The VCC power can either be externally supplied or internally regulated, which allows the ISL2802x series to handle a common-mode input voltage range from 0V to 60V. The wide range permits the devices to handle telecom, automotive and industrial applications with minimal external circuitry.
The ISL2802x family features an 8-bit voltage DAC which enables DC/DC converter output voltage margining, fault indication includes a Bus Voltage window and overcurrent fast fault logic indication. A temperature sensing option includes both internal temperature sensor and a bias/monitor circuit for external diode sensing. The digital power has configurable fault thresholds and measurable ADC gain ranges. Both high and low-side ground sensing applications are easily handled with the flexible architecture.
The ISL28023/25 serial interface is I²C, SMBus and PMBus compatible and operates down to 1.2V voltage whilst the ISL28022 serial interface is I²C and SMBus compatible. The ISL28023 draws an average current of just 800μA and is available in the space saving 24 Lead QFN 4mmx4mm package, the ISL28025 draws an average current of just 1.3mA and is available in the space saving 16 ball WLCSP package and the ISL28022 consumes an average current of just 700μA and is available in a 10 Lead MSOP package or the space saving 16 Lead QFN package.
All three parts operate across the extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.
The ISL2802x Digital Power Monitors are ideal for a wide range of telecom, industrial and consumer applications. Including:
The ISL2802x Digital Power Monitors are supported with a range of Evaluation Kits, ISL28022EVKIT1Z, ISL28023EVKIT1Z and ISL28025EVKIT1Z DPM, these three-board design kits demonstrate the functionality of the ISL28022, ISL28023 and ISL28025 and allow engineers to accelerate the design process.
