Harwin have a wide range of Surface Mount Shield Clips and compatible Shield Cans which provide design engineers a straight-forward, easy-to-use board level shielding solution. The novel combination of separate surface mount (SMT) Clips and Shielding Cans provides a very simple, production friendly and cost-effective method of shielding components which are vulnerable to or radiate EMI.
Once the SMT clips have been soldered to the PCB using automatic SMD production equipment there is no secondary manual soldering operations required to assemble the shield cans, these are just quickly and easily slotted into the SMT clips. As well as being very production friendly and fast assembly this method also avoids introducing potential hot-spots from manual soldering, which could damage adjacent components. Rework and testing is also much easier without a de-soldering operation to access components under the shield can, the metal shield can simply be lifted off the board and replaced after the servicing has been performed.
A standard range of SMT clips are available made from Beryllium Copper, Cupro-Nickel (Beryllium-free) or Stainless Steel material all with a bright tin finish, SMT clips are available to suit the various can thicknesses and include corner mount versions. The shielding cans provides excellent RFI and EMI protection to sensitive circuitry at the PCB level and are constructed from un-plated nickel silver material and are available in 6 popular sizes to suit most application needs, the sizes range from 30 x 20 x 2.5mm to 50 x 25 x 5mm.
To support engineers at the design stage Harwin also have a RFI Shield Can Kit which consists of SMT clips and 2 sheets of 60 x 80mm shield can material which is scored on a 5mm pitch grid allowing users to configure custom sizes for testing, prototyping and evaluation purposes.
