HIROSE the world-class manufacturer in connectors, has introduced the FH64MA series, a compact flexible printed-circuit (FPC) connector with an ultra-low profile, offering a space- saving solution in applications, such as electronic labelling, wearables and other portable devices.
In addition to its fine 0.25mm pitch, which saves board space, the parts have a very low profile height of only 0.5mm. The unique design of the FH64MA features mating guides on each side of the housing to allow easy insertion of the FPC. The guides align the FPC into the connector correctly even if inserted at the wrong angle.
The FH64MA series has metal locking arms on both sides on the housing that holds the FPC tabs firmly in place allowing a higher FPC retention force, making it extremely difficult to remove. In addition, the contacts are designed with a sharp protruding point that presses into the FPC stiffener to further increase the retention force from a horizontal direction.
To prevent flux penetration clearance is provided between the contact, metal locking arm and housing, which prevents capillary action of flux travelling up the surface mount (SMT) contact to the contact point. Nickel plating is applied to the contact to form a barrier to prevent solder wicking.
The FH64MA series are designed for top contact FPC cables in 7, 11, 15 and 19 ways currently with other ways in development, see datasheet. The connectors are supplied on tape and reel packaging compatible with surface mount automation equipment.
