Bourns has expanded their range of semi-shielded SMD inductors, which are designed using a semi-magnetic shielding technology. These inductors are suitable for cost-conscious applications that require a level of magnetic shielding.
Instead of using the conventional ferrite shield, the magnetic shield of these inductors utilizes an epoxy-ferrite powder mixture resin. This compound is applied to the perimeter of the inductor such that it completely envelops the winding. As a result, the semi-shielded inductors provide effective magnetic shielding while emitting lower radiation compared to non-shielded inductors. In addition, the semi-shielded models offer cost savings vs. comparably-sized conventional ferrite shield inductors.
The semi-shielded range of inductors from Bourns are now available in sizes from 2.0mm x 1.6mm to 10.0mm x 9.8mm with profile heights from 1.0mm to 6.0mm. Inductance values range from 0.24µH to 470µH with current ratings up to 10A. The Bourns® Semi-Shielded inductors have a wide operating temperature range with temperatures down to -55°C and up to a maximum of +125°C depending on the series.
