Arduino compatible platform enables evaluation of Everspin’s Non Volatile Low Power High Speed MRAM

Everspin Technologies, Inc., the world's leading developer and manufacturer of discrete and embedded MRAM has released the MR10Q010 1Mb High Speed Quad SPI MRAM which is the ideal memory solution for applications that must store and retrieve data and programs quickly using a low power and low pin count package.

The MR10Q010 MRAM features four serial I/O paths known as a Quad SPI (or QSPI) interface. The combination of Quad SPI with MRAM allows users to take advantage of very high write speeds with no write delay as experienced with Flash or EEPROM based products. Featuring a clock speed of 104 MHz with 52MBps read/write bandwidth, the MR10Q010 is suitable for applications that require high frequency, high-performance writes of critical data.

The MR10Q010 Quad SPI MRAM is organized as 131,072 words of 8 bits, the four I/O’s in Quad SPI mode allow very fast reads and writes, making it an attractive alternative to conventional parallel data bus interfaces in next generation RAID controllers, server system logs, storage device buffers, and embedded system data and program memory.

Using Everspin’s patented MRAM technology, both reads and writes can occur randomly in memory with no delay between writes. Standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Quad SPI and Quad Peripheral Interface (QPI) modes are supported at a clock rate up to 104MHz. XIP operation is supported for Read commands in all three modes.

The MR10Q010 device is supplied in the space saving 16-pin SOIC package and can be specified in commercial (0 to 70°C) or industrial (-40 to +85°C) temperature range.

The MR10Q010 is supported by the MR10Q010-EVAL shield evaluation board which has been designed for compatibility with any Arduino-derived host platform featuring a UNO expansion interface. The MR10Q010-EVAL shield evaluation board allows developers with an Arduino-derived host board to quickly and easily evaluate the benefits of SPI- and QSPI-based Magnetoresistive RAM (MRAM) products from Everspin.

The MR10Q010-EVAL shield evaluation board is populated with Everspin’s MR10Q010 1Mb Quad-SPI MRAM and can be connected with the STMicroelectronics ARM®-Cortex®-based NUCLEO-F411RE board via a standard Arduino UNO expansion interface giving engineers a fast, simple low cost evaluation platform. Using this platform developers looking for fast, non-volatile memory with virtually unlimited endurance and high data retention designed for robust storage, industrial, and transportation markets now have a simple method to evaluate MRAM for their next project.

To complement the MR10Q010-EVAL shield evaluation board, Everspin has created a simple MRAM_MR10Q010 demonstration project on ARM mbed™ using the NUCLEO-F411RE board.

The MR10Q010-EVAL shield evaluation board can stack onto any Arduino-derived host board built to accept shields with a standard UNO expansion interface.
