The STGAP2SM/CM is an isolated single gate driver and the STGAP2DM is an isolated half-bridge gate driver, these innovative devices from STMicroelectronics isolate the gate driving channels from the low voltage control and interface circuitry. Both devices are characterized by 4 A current capability and rail-to-rail outputs, making the device suitable also for high power inverter applications such as motor drivers in industrial applications equipped with MOSFET/IGBT/SiC power switch.
The STGAP2S is a single gate driver in SO8 package and available in two different variants: one with separated source and sink outputs, STGAP2SM, and the other, STGAP2SCM, with single output pin and a dedicated pin for 4 A Miller clamp function. The EVALSTGAP2S evaluation board is suitable for both output configuration variants. The STGAP2DM is an half-bridge gate driver in SO16 package which also includes dedicated SD and BRAKE pins.
The STGAP2SM/CM and STGAP2DM devices integrates protection functions: UVLO and thermal shutdown are included to simplify the design of high reliability systems. Dual input pins allow choosing the control signal polarity and also implementing HW interlocking protection in order to avoid cross-conduction in case of controller malfunction. A stand-by function is also available in order to minimize power dissipation during idle conditions. The devices allow the implementation of negative gate driving and have fast input to output propagation delay, contained within 80 ns, which makes them a perfect fit to drive SiC MOSFETs.
The EVALSTGAP2S and EVALSTGAP2DM boards allow evaluation of all the STGAP2SM/CM and STGAP2DM device features whilst driving a half-bridge power stage rated up to 1700 V and made of switches in TO-220 or TO-247 package.
The evaluation boards feature isolated supplies for the output channels and allow easy selection of optimized positive and negative driving voltage for MOSFET/IGBT or SiC. The easy selection and modification of the values of relevant external components enable driver's performance evaluation under different application conditions and fine pre-tuning of final application components.
