Introducing the M24SR series Dynamic NFC/RFID tags with I2C EEPROM from STMicroelectronics

STMicroelectronics have launched an innovative family of dynamic NFC/RFID tags providing new features and capabilities. The M24SR series have a dual interface allowing the EEPROM memory to be accessed using either the low power I2C interface or the ISO 14443 compatible RF interface operating at 13.56 MHz.

The M24SR series has EEPROM sizes from 256KB to 8KB and is compatible with NFC Forum Type 4 Tag and ISO/IEC 14443 Type A protocols with a RF range of up to 10cm.

M24SR devices are compatible with NFC compliant smartphones and can be used without any need for FCC or equivalent certification, as they are classed as passive RF devices. Each device has a unique 64bit ID code, and multiple levels of password protection for each interface, to ensure your product is secure.

The M24SR series can be integrated into a wide range of products, due to its ability to program or read memory using either NFC/RFID or a wired interface it offers new functions and capabilities over traditional pin compatible EEPROM devices for many applications including ...

Convenient wireless pairing - Tap & Pair! Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection pairing / un-pairing made convenient by just tapping the phone by the dynamic NFC tag

Remote programming - Tap & set! Take advantage of smartphones user interface to set appliances, home automation, healthcare and industrial equipment.

Data download - Tap & download! Download application running data, device user manual and customer service contact information.

Service maintenance - Tap & diagnose! Enable / disable a device, reconfigure it, download maintenance records, error codes or activate new functions.

Supporting the design in of the M24SR series is the M24SR-DISCOVERY which is a demonstration kit allowing users to evaluate the features and capabilities of the M24SR series and is based on the M24SR64 8KB EEPROM device. Two versions of this kit are available: the Standard Edition and the Premium Edition, the Premium Edition includes all of the Standard edition features, plus a headset and a Bluetooth module to demonstrate the convenience of pairing with a smartphone via NFC. The board is powered through the USB bus and also includes a STM32F103 microcontroller to drive the EEPROM via I2C and the LCD screen via SPI bus.
