Everspin release 16Mb MRAM devices with wide operating temperature range

Everspin have introduced 16Mb MRAM devices with -40°C to +125° temperature range making them ideal for harsh environment applications that require a non-volatile memory with unlimited read/write endurance, fast access and long term data retention.

MRAM is a type of memory that uses the magnetism of electron spin to provide non-volatility without wear-out. MRAM stores information in magnetic material integrated with silicon circuitry to deliver the speed of SRAM with the non-volatility of Flash in a single unlimited-endurance device. Everspin MRAM devices are designed to combine the best features of non-volatile memory and RAM to enable "instant-on" capability and power loss protection for an increasing number of electronic systems.

The new 16Mb devices are available with a choice of 8-bit (MR4A08BUYS45) and 16-bit (MR4A16BUYS45) parallel interface, the magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) devices are organized as 2,097,152 words of 8 bits or 1,048,576 words of 16 bits. The 8-bit device is available in a 44-pin thin small outline package (TSOP Type 2) and the 16-bit device is in a 54-pin thin small outline package (TSOP Type 2). The devices are compatible with similar low-power SRAM products and other nonvolatile RAM products.

Data

Both devices have a -40°C to +125°C operating temperature range and offer SRAM-compatible 45ns read/write timing with unlimited endurance. The non-volatile devices have data retention greater than 20 years and data is automatically protected on power loss by low-voltage inhibit circuitry to prevent writes with voltage out of specification. Data retention is duty cycle limited at the temperature extremes.

These new Everspin MRAM devices are the ideal memory solution for applications that must permanently store and retrieve critical data and programs quickly, providing high reliability storage over the automotive temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
