Analog Devices Wireless Development Platform for Internet of Things (IoT) applications based on ultra-low power ARM Cortex-M3 processor

Analog Devices have introduced the EVAL-ADICUP3029 an Arduino-like development platform based on the ADUCM3029 ultra low power microcontroller (MCU) with integrated power management for processing, control, and connectivity. The MCU system is based on the ARM Cortex-M3 processor and has an integrated collection of digital peripherals, embedded SRAM and flash memory, and an analog subsystem which provides clocking, reset, and power management capability in addition to an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) subsystem.

The ADUCM3029 microcontroller powering this development platform has industry leading ultra-low power consumption which makes it ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The EVAL-ADICUP3029 development platform has an Arduino Uno form factor, two PMOD connectors, and an I2C Grove style connector for easy to connect sensors and signal conditioning add on modules. The platform is designed to be a development and prototyping vehicle to get customer ideas from concept to production with a minimal risk and faster time to market.

Featuring on board Bluetooth low energy and Wi-Fi connectivity the EVAL-ADICUP3029 development platform is designed with Internet of Things (IoT) applications in mind and is ready to go right out of the box and comes complete with software and working hardware/software examples. A free programming and debugging tool is also provided by Analog Devices and the base platform is complimented by a set of Analog Devices hardware add on modules but it can also work with 3rd party hardware.

The development platform uses CrossCore Embedded Studio, an open source Eclipse based Interactive Development Environment (IDE), which can be downloaded free of charge. The ADUCM3029 offers designers an easy to use development tool with no code size limitations.

One of the small form factor PMOD compatible evaluation/prototyping boards available to compliment the EVAL-ADICUP3029 development platform is the low cost ambient temperature sensor measurement board EVAL-ADT7420-PMDZ based on the ADT7420 ±0.25°C accurate, 16-Bit digital I2C temperature sensor.

EVAL-ADICUP3029 Development Platform layout

When prototyping, this board is used in conjunction with the EVAL-ADICUP3029 development platform where its direct electrical and physical connection enables designers to get started quickly with hardware and software to help develop applications.

The standard I2C PMOD peripheral connectors can also be found on many 3rd party MCU or FPGA development boards enabling the EVAL-ADT7420-PMDZ to be connected directly into those systems as well allowing developers to create their own code using reference code Analog Devices have also made available.

Analog Devices have also released a number of reference designs to assist engineers in the design phase covering applications including data acquisition, temperature measurement, gas sensing, pH monitoring and light recognition. Download the reference designs above.
