Introducing the AD5761R/AD5721R 16 and 12 bit serial input, voltage output DAC’s from Analog Devices

Analog Devices have introduced the new AD5761R (16 bit) and AD5721R (12 bit) digital-to-analog converters, both devices are single channel, serial input, voltage output devices. They are capable of operation on single supply voltages from 4.75 V to 30 V or dual supply voltages from −16.5 V to 0 V VSS and 4.75 V to 16.5 V VDD.

Both the AD5761R and AD5721R DAC’s feature an integrated output amplifier, internal reference and an on-chip reference buffer making them very easy to use as a universal solution, furthermore the devices offer guaranteed monotonicity, integral nonlinearity (INL) of ±2 LSB maximum, 35 nV/√Hz noise and 7.5 μs settling time on selected ranges.

The AD5761R/ AD5721R use a serial interface that operates at clock rates of up to 50 MHz and are compatible with DSP and microcontroller interface standards. Double buffering allows the asynchronous updating of the DAC output whilst the input coding is user-selectable twos complement or straight binary, the output range is user selectable via a programmable control register.

The AD5761R/ AD5721R DAC’s are suited to a range of applications including industrial automation, instrumentation, data acquisition, open/closed-loop servo control, process control and programmable logic controllers.

Both devices are available in the popular 16-lead TSSOP package and offer guaranteed specifications over the −40°C to +125°C industrial temperature range.

The AD5761R device is supported by the fully featured EVAL-AD5761RSDZ evaluation board, this board allows the user to easily evaluate all the features of the AD5761R 16-bit, voltage output digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The evaluation board gives access to the pins of the AD5761R device via on-board connectors allowing for external connection and can be controlled via the on-board connector (J3) or via the on-board SDP connector (J4). When used in conjunction with the SDP board EVAL-SDP-CB1Z the EVAL-AD5761RSDZ evaluation board can be controlled using the USB port of a Windows® XP (SP2 or later) or Windows Vista (32-bit) based PC via the AD5761R evaluation software.
